Common Household foods that are toxic to our dogs! (1)

We all know the most talked about items around our homes that our dog's can't have, the chemical cabinet it ALWAYS out of bounds, no chocolate, no alcohol. But did you know there are a lot more common foods that you probably have in your kitchen right now that are also very toxic to our dogs? In this blog series we will highlight  some other foods that you may not know need to be kept out of Fido's reach too!

Fruit seeds & pits

Apples, Cherries, Plums and Apricots all have toxic centres! All of the seeds and pits of these fruits contain cyanide and should never be consumed by a dog.

Broccoli

Broccoli contains a compound called isothiocyanates which can be harmful to dogs. Broccoli stalks are also a serious choking hazard too. Although it can be safe in very small quantities, there are plenty of other options for healthy treats for dogs so best to steer clear of the Broccoli.

Avocado

Dog's should NEVER consume ANY part of an avocado. They are extremely toxic to dogs and can lead to fluid in the lungs and chest, causing the dog to pass away from lack of oxygen. The substance 'persin'  in Avocados is poisonous to dogs.

Fatty cuts of meats
& skin

Any meats and their skin with a high fat content put a dog at risk of pancreatitis which can be life threatening. Any deli style meats should be avoided too for this reason.
