We Love Dogs Charity
At We Love Dogs, we don’t just love our pets, we care about all animals. That’s why we donate 4% of our profits to charities like the RSPCA. It’s organisations like the RSPCA that are the true unsung heroes, taking care of the 135,000 innocent animals that people dump every year and condemn to a life sentence or death. To us, the idea of an innocent person serving a life sentence for a crime he didn’t commit is unfathomable. For cats and dogs dumped at pet shelters – it’s a fact. Day in, day out RSPCA volunteers look after the epidemic of dumped animals and try and find them loving homes so they don’t get killed. With only 3% of funding provided by the government, RSPCA Australia depends on the community to continue their vital work. If you can spare a few dollars or even adopt an animal, visit www.rspca.com.au. You can’t change the lives of every animal, but you can make a difference to one. Here’s an example of the difference one person can make: The Old Man and the Starfish by Irv Furman There was a young man walking down a deserted beach just before dawn. In the distance he saw a frail old man. As he approached the old man, he saw him picking up stranded starfish and throwing them back into the sea. The young man gazed in wonder as the old man again and again threw the small starfish from the sand to the water. He asked, "Old man, why do you spend so much energy doing what seems to be a waste of time?" The old man explained that the stranded starfish would die if left in the morning sun. " But there must be thousands of beached and millions of starfish!" exclaimed the young man. "How can you make any difference?" The old man looked down at the small starfish in his hand and as he threw it into the safety of the sea, he said, "I made a difference to this one." Need another reason to donate? Did you know that giving is not just good for your favorite cause; it's good for you, too? • People who gave money to charity were 43% more likely than non-givers to say they were "very happy" about their lives. • Volunteers were 42% more likely to be very happy than non-volunteers. • It doesn’t matter whether gifts are of money or time— givers to all types are far happier than non-givers. • People who give often report feelings of euphoria, which psychologists have referred to as the "Helper's High." They believe that charitable activity induces endorphins that produce a very mild version of the sensations people get from drugs like morphine and heroin.
