As many of you know, here at We Love Dogs Kennel Resort we specialise in the care of Small Dogs, Golden Oldies, Special Medical Needs, Post-Operative Rehabilitation Care.
Our Golden Oldies care is for all Breeds over the age of 10 years who may need that extra love and care.
Our Resort is specifically designed to meet the needs of the older and small dogs and with an onsite manager, we are able to care for our guests 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Our accommodation suites are fitted with heating and cooling, as unlike younger dogs, our Golden Oldies are unable to regulate their body heat quite as well.
Each room has a television and luxury bedding to create a home away from home feeling, allowing our guests to relax and watch or listen to the TV as they please!
Each guest is provided their own luxury bedding to suit their needs. We have a range of different beds that are comfy and easy to get in and out of, some being low line bedding for those suffering arthritis and big fluffy beds for those who love to snuggle in. Our guests are provided with fresh blankets daily and as required.
All rooms and yards have flat surfaces, making it easy for our elderly guests to get around and all yards have K9 Grass. K9 Grass is an artificial grass with a built-in irrigation system. This means that it is very hygienic and easy to keep clean. It also is a flat surface and our guests wont stumble like they might on a natural grass. This is also great for dogs who suffer from grass allergies.
Can’t drop your dog off? That’s okay, We Love Dogs Kennel Resort has a K9 Limousine. We are able to pick up and drop off your dog safely with our K9 Limousine service. For larger dogs who are unable to get in and out of a car, we have slings where we are able to safely lift them in and out of the vehicle.
With services like this, and staff with a passion for caring for dogs, why not come and visit We Love Dogs Kennel Resort and our friendly team will be more than happy to show you around our beautiful Resort and wonderful facilities.
German Shepherds are a medium to large working dog. Originating from Germany, they were first called Deutsche Schäferhunde (German Shepherd Dog). Then for some time were known as Alsatian’s until their name was changed in 1977 back to German Shepherd Dog.
They are strong and sturdy with a solid bone structure and are very muscular. They have large ears which stand upright, but are often pulled back during movement.
German Shepherds have two different coat types, medium and long. The long hair gene is recessive which means that the long hair variety is actually quite rare. Their coats are two-layered which means that they have a thick undercoat.
Their coats are usually black and tan, however they have been known to come in red and tan, sable, pure black, pure white, liver, blue and silver. Whilst the all black and the sable colours are accepted as pure colours, the blue and liver colourings are considered to be faults in their genes. Their coats require upkeep as they are heavy shedders and will require regular brushing.
German Shepherd Dogs are extremely intelligent. A trait which they are famous for. Stanley Coren, the author of book, The Intelligence of Dogs, has ranked them to be the third smartest breed, and has found that they have an ability to learn a simple task after only 5 repetitions and have obeyed the first command given 95% of the time. This trait, combined with their strength makes a GSD a desirable addition to the police force, search and rescue and as guard dogs.
Unfortunately, over the years due to bad breeding, hereditary issues such as hip and elbow dysplasia is becoming more common. Thorough research is highly recommended before picking your pup!
German Shepherds make wonderful family members however, they require a high level of exercise and mental stimulation every day. If considering adding a GSD to your family, it is advised to have a good understanding of the breed and the attention and authority that they require.
If you are thinking about added a German Shepherd to your family, you won’t regret it! They are loyal and have a lot of love to give – but just make sure you have the time that they require!
